The Police Biography

The PoliceThe Police is the rock band of the seventies that had its own distinct style in lyrics as well as music that had its own breed of audience all over the world. A bit of punk and some juicy jazz laced with reggae is the delightful fare in store for the music fans. This rock band from Britain that held the whole world enthralled consisted of Sting who was the lead singer and the Bass guitarist and two other great rock musicians of that time. Stewart Copeland the drummer and singer and Andy Summers who was a singer as well a rhythm guitarist held the audience in the sway.

Their greatest hit was the album synchronicity released all over the world in the year 1983. More than eight million copies were sold in the U.S.alone. After this phenomenal success due to reasons best known to the singers they separated in the year 1984. In the year 1977 their song that took the Europe by storm was Roxane.

The singers wanted to bring the nostalgia of police live again. They wanted to celebrate the 30th year of Roxanne to douse the fire in the rock fans craving for more from police. So all three singers came together again in 2007 and virtually stormed the world again unleashing their music through the major part of 2008.

Today the lead singer sting has made a cool two hundred million pounds from the strings of his Bass guitar. All three members of the band are well into their sixties now. It would be interesting to note that the lead singer of the band, Sting was into something that was in no way connected to singing and that was digging the ditches! He was also a part time football coach at a school. Sting got his nickname because he wore one day a t-shirt with stripes on it that made him look like a bee. Someone began calling him stinger and later it became sting. The members called themselves police only to get noticed.

No body really knows why they separated. It is said as a senior member Copeland was jealous of sting as he was now an actor and a star solo singer. Sting on his part made matters worse. He did not accept Copeland’s lyrics and made his own corrections into them. Both men began to hate each other. It was not unusual to find these two great singers exchange blows! Another thing is that the publicity agents and recording companies recognized only sting as the only important member of the band.

When they came together again they were more mature and their stage appearance together again was a hit. Sting could be a star without the band. But his managers did not give him any rest. He was made to sing continuously and one day he collapsed on stage. He realized how other people were making use of him and decided to return to his own band. This is the explanation put forth for the reunion after thirty years!
