Steven Spielberg Biography

Steven SpielbergSteven Spielberg whose actual name is Steven Allan Spielberg, is considered one of the most influential and powerful one in the motion picture stream in Hollywood. Steven is credited with creation of movies on wide selection of subjects which have enthralled the audiences for over four decades. Born in 1946 in Ohio to pianist and restuarer mother and computer engineer father, was into making movies since his childhood.

A film director, screenwriter and film producer of repute, Steven did his first TV show in the year1969 when he did one show of the ‘Night Gallery’ series. Steven’s actual steps towards worldwide recognition and fame started with the release of his movie Jaws, his directorial venture which according to Steven was one of the most difficult movies to shoot, being a director’s nightmare and went way over budget. Despite those troubles the movie was a world wide success and Steven Spielberg had become a well known personality across the globe.

The movie ‘Close Encounters of the third kind’ was the first movie which got Steven his first best director nominations in the academy awards. Spielberg created ‘Raiders of the lost ark’ the first of the Indiana Jones series in the year 1981, which was considered to be the biggest movie of that particular year which had to its credit a host of Oscar award nominations including one for best director for Spielberg.

During his earlier years, Spielberg’s forte was science fiction movies, and he has to his credit movie like ‘E.T. the Extra Terrestrial’ which won world wide acclaim for its directorial features. In his initial years, Spielberg was also involved in screenplay writing and executive production for movies like the Poltergeist and The twilight zone.

Steven has also been involved in creation of the ‘Jurassic Park’ movie and its sequels. The first of the series; the Jurassic park’, had set a world record for highest box office collections after its release. The second movie of the series ‘the lost world: Jurassic park’ was also the second highest grossing movie of the year 1997; falling slightly behind the titanic.

Steven set up his own movie studio by the name of ‘DreamWorks’ which has to its credits movies like ‘the Amistad’, ‘Saving Private Ryan’, ‘Catch me if you can’, ‘The Terminal’ etc. Infact, Steven won the best directors Oscar award for his direction for the movie ‘Saving Private Ryan’ which was an adaption of a world war movie wherein a group of soldiers led by their captain are on the look out of a missing soldier in the war.

Spielberg runs a foundation known as ‘Star bright’ which is involved in taking care of sick children with the help of programs which are based on education and entertainment. In his personal life, Spielberg to his credit also has the distinction of having the third most costly divorce settlement with his first wife, Amy Irving. Currently married to actress Kate Capshaw, Spielberg is father to seven children from both the marriages.
