David Letterman Biography

David LettermanDavid Michael Letterman, one of the most distinguished comedians boats of hosting one of the longest late night show on TV spanning over 16 years. Born in the year 1947, David Letterman the host of ‘Late Show with David letterman’ which has been on air since 1993, idolizes pioneers like Johnny Carson, who himself had the distinction of hosting the longest running late night shows on the television. David had very close relations with Johnny Carson, incidentally who at one point of time had wanted David to be as the appropriate replacement for his ‘The Tonight Show’.

Letterman claims to have been inspired for taking up talk show host job by watching the Paul Dixon show in his formative years. It is this show which prompted him to take up the job of radio talk show host and a weatherman in his initial years. David was associated with an uncanny and peculiar way of presenting the shows that he used to host, especially the ones in which he used to share the weather details of different cities. He would often start telling temperatures of cities which never used to exist; using humor as a potent tool to connect with his audiences.

Winner of several comedy awards, David moved to the city of Los Angeles in the year 1975 in the hope to make a career as a comedy writer. He even started performing in the Comedy Store, a Los Angeles based comedy club, which is associated with providing opportunity to young and budding artists to showcase there talent. David was given a morning slot show on the NBC channel in the year 1980 which was a winner of a few Emmy awards and gained critical acclaim from the critics.

Following the success of the morning show, David was given a late night show slot by the NBC, a show which began to have a cult following on the basis of having unpredictable and out of the ordinary content and presentation patterns. Apart form winning 67 Emmy awards for his show during its entire life cycle, David has also won several other prestigious awards. Awards like Funniest Male Performer in a TV special for the year 1989 & 1995 and Funniest Male Performer in a TV series in the year 1994 and 2001 have also been embraced upon David.

David Letterman is the owner of a production company known as ‘Worldwide Pants Incorporated’ which produces several critically acclaimed TV shows apart from his own late night show. David also runs a foundation known as American Foundation for Courtesy and Grooming which supports the causes of other charities and non profit organizations. Letterman, born to a florist father and mother who used to work as a church secretary having a German descent, was very much into collecting model cars since his childhood. It his love of collecting model cars that has led David to become the owner of Rahal Letterman Racing team with co owner Bobby Rahal. Their racing team won the Indianapolis 500 race in the year 2004.
